SUMMARY: This book addresses the role of information in a constantly changing world, with contributors taking a close look at want information means in the context of our environment which is being influenced by problems brought about by development, democracy and security in Southern Africa. It argues that most of the glaring shortcomings of the overall information infrastructure are not on the transmission side as conventionally believed, but are more on the generation, ownership, reception and use of the information received. The contributors urge a sustained research in the information sector in its broadened sense which requires continued commitment from government, public and private institutions, non,-governmental organisations, donors and above all an indigenous crop of researchers familiar with the Southern Africa sub-region. This is a book which sets the stage for further collaborative research in the information sector. FROM BOOK COVER
